Duey, Helen Lou Horton -
Helen Lou Duey, daughter of Clyde and Mabel Moore Horton was born on a farm southwest of Clearfield, Iowa on January 15, 1918 and departed this life December 28, 1997 at her home in Clearfield.
On February 16, 1937 she was united in marriage to John Everett Duey and to this union three children were born-Jim Duey, Judy Branham and Brenda Spurrier.
Helen Lou was a member of the Methodist Church in Clearfield and Eastern Star. She loved to play cards and was a member of Entrenous, Duplicate, Merry Matrons bridge clubs and Rook club.
Helen Lou and Johnny traveled and spent many winters in Arizona. They never missed a State Fair for 50 years.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband John, daughters Judy and husband Wayne Branham of Sheridan, Missouri; Brenda and husband Dean Spurrier of Clearfield and daughter-in-law Ramona Duey of Folsom, California; 8 grandchildren
Mark Hargin of Bedford, IA; Mitch Hargin of Clarinda, IA; Lisa Bergan of Superior, CO; Linda Bartlett of Roseville, CA; Craig Duey of Placerville, CA; Scott Spurrier and Angela Rugolo, both of Chandler, AZ; and Brent Spurrier of Princeton, MO; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Isabel and husband Raymond Trost of Lenox, IA; and sisters-in-law Mollie Johnston
of Afton and Marianna Duey of Waverly, IA; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Jim, two brothers Bill and Pete Horton and an infant sister.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 31, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Clearfield,
Iowa with Rev. Alan Rusk officiating. Music was provided by Patty Parrish and Kathy Nelson.
Casketbearers were Gaylan Bell, Jerry Horton, Mitch Hargin, Todd Morris, Brent Spurrier, Craig Duey, Scott Spurrier, and Mark Hargin.
Honorary pallbearers were Darl Bell, James Darst, Paul Brown, and Jerry Ewalt.
Interment was in the Clearfield Cemetery at Clearfield, Iowa.
Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home in Clearfield was in charge of the arrangements.
