OBITUARY ~ CECIL SHAFER

Cecil SHAFER, age 77 years, passed away August 11, 1989 at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr, Iowa.

He was born in Middle Fork township on October 1, 1911, to John and Grace FERGUSON SHAFER. He was the brother of Wilbur and John and the step-brother of Genevee MATHEWS of Grant City, Missouri, and Roland and Kenneth MAUDLIN, both deceased. Cecil graduated from Redding High School in 1931.

on April 26, 1933, at Grant City, Missouri, he was married to Deva FLETCHALL. They farmed and raised their three children, Veryle, Doyle and Linda, in Ringgold County.

Cecil and Deva retired to Creston, Iowa for 14 years and then returned to Ringgold County in 1987 to the town of Mount Ayr.

Cecil is survived by his wife, Deva, and their three children, Veryle and wife Norma, Doyle and wife Marilyn, and daughter Linda CARRIER; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Cecil was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather. He cherished his many nieces, nephews and firends, young and old alike. He enjoyed the young people who stopped and visited him.

Funeral services were held August 14, 1989, from the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, conducted by Rev. Jerry AVISE-ROUSE. Music was provided by Mrs. Robert THOMAS, Mrs. Robert FISHER and Mrs. Jim JONES.

Casketbearers were Amon HUNT, Guy BAGLEY, Glenn AUSTIN, Elvin SAVILLE, George SAVILLE and James GRIFFITH. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr, Iowa.
