NOTICE of DEATH

Jacob CASE died at his home near Ringgold Saturday. He had been a great sufferer for over a year. The funeral was conducted Monday at 11 o'clock at the Ringgold Church by Rev. C. KNOLL after which the remains were laid to rest in the Ringgold cemetery. He was 83 years of age. He leaves an aged companion, three sons and five daughters to mourn his loss.

DEATH of JACOB CASE

PIONEER of the COUNTY DIED SUNDAY AT RINGGOLD, AGED 83 YEARS

Jacob CASE was born in Henderson county, New Jersey, March 11, 1817, and died at Ringgold [City] December 30, 1900, aged 83 years, nine months, and 19 days. When but a boy he moved with his parents from New Jersey to Ohio, thence to Indiana, thence to Pennsylvania and thence back to Ohio. From there the second time he moved to Indiana, and then started westward into Illinois, thence to Arkansas, thence to Missouri. From there he moved to Decantur county, Iowa, in 1853, and finally to Ringgold county in 1854. He has since resided in this county. He was married July 24, 1842, at Leesville, Indiana to Mary B. COX. This union was blessed with 12 children, five sons and seven daughters, of whom eight children and their mother survive him. He united in 1837 with the Methodist church, in which he remained a constant member until his death. His only brother died last July after having been an active member of the Methodist church for 75 years. Mr. CASE was one of the early pioneers of Ringgold county and took an active interest in the building up of the county, especially in religious work, often having preaching and other religous services in his own house. When the church building was built he was one of the main supporters, both with influence and his means. He was a good neighbor, a kind father, and much respected by all who knew him. While Father CASE was not of great strength, he enjoyed good health until March 7, 1900, when he was injured by a fall on the ice, leaving him a cripple.

The funeral was held at 11 o'clock Monday, December 31, at Ringgold, conducted by Rev. C. KNOLL of Kellerton, assisted by Rev. WILSON of Grant City and Rev. JONES of Delphos. The pall bearers were George OLNEY, David CAIN, John HOLDEN, Ira COOPER, Bird HAGANS, and Abe WALTER.
