Edith WERTZ, 93, of Newburg, Ind., formerly of Maloy and Mount Ayr, died March 17, 2009, at Angel River Health and Rehab Center in Newburg, Ind.

Services are pending at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., Mount Ayr.

OBITUARY - EDITH WERTZ

Edith WERTZ, 93, of Newburg, Ind., formerly of Maloy and Mount Ayr, died March 17, 2009, at Angel River Health and Rehab Center in Newburg, Ind.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, March 22, at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home, 205. W. Monroe St., Mount Ayr. The Rev. Barton SHIELDS will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr. Open visitation will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials will be established in her name.

OBITUARY - EDITH MARY WERTZ

Edith Mary WERTZ, daughter of Ray & Katie (MOTSINGER) SIMMONS, was born September 29, 1915 in Worth County, Missouri. Edith lived her entire life in Taylor and Ringgold Counties. She graduated from Blockton High School in 1933. She received her Normal Teachers Certification and taught country school in Taylor County for 8 years. Edith loved her time teaching and cherished those memories throughout her life.

On January 31, 1942, Edith was united in marriage to Roscoe Robert WERTZ in Grant City, Missouri. The home was blessed with a daughter, Mary. They lived on a farm near Maloy, Iowa, specifically, they farmed on Highway 2 west of the Platt River. Edith is a member of the First Christian Church. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, sewing, and doing genealogy research. Edith worked as a bookkeeper for Warin Oil Company from 1963 to 1978. Edith and Roscoe retired into Mount Ayr in the early 1980’s. Roscoe passed away April 27, 1993. In 1999, Edith moved to San Diego, California to be near her daughter and grandchildren. In June of 2005, Edith moved to Newburgh, Indiana and eventually became a resident of the Angel River Health & Rehab Center. She passed away at Angel River on March 17, 2009.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Roscoe; five brothers Kenneth, Clifton, Lewis, Lawrence, and Wayne SIMMONS; and one sister Gertrude OWENS.

Those lift to cherish her memory include her daughter Mary WERTZ of Creston, IA; two grandchildren Ryan MAY of San Diego, CA and Leslee COLLINS & husband Wayne of Newburgh, IN; two great grandchildren Kaylee & Kara COLLINS; other relatives and friends.
