OBITUARY - MRS. J. H. THOMAS.

Hermon (sic, should be Hernon) HOGELAND, daughter of Hon. James and Mary HOGELAND, was born in Morgan county, Indiana, January 13, 1854. She died at the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, at 10 o'clock a.m. January 28, 1927, aged 73 years and 15 days.

She was the second child in a family of five children. One brother, Peter HOGELAND and one sister, Mrs. Mollie WILSON, survive her.

On October 22, 1874, she was married to Joseph H. THOMAS, whose death occurred on April 19, 1910. After their marriage they resided in Marion county until the year 1879 when they moved to Ringgold county settling on a farm in Lotts Creek township, where she resided until the time of her death, having been a resident of Ringgold county 47 years.

Mr. and Mrs. THOMAS were the parents of five children. The three sons, Roscoe, Corwin and Ralph, and two daughters, Mrs. Dotha CHANCE and Mrs. Minnie LONG, survive her. She also leaves besides these sixteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many other relatives and a host of friends who mourn her departure.

Mrs. THOMAS was converted early in life and was a faithful and consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal church. There are many things that endeared her to her family and friends. She loved to read, reading only the best literature, which not only added to her store of knowledge and broadened her mind, but strengthened her beautiful christian character. She was an unusually devoted mother, the welfare of her children and grandchildren being uppermost in her mind. During her last illness she often made inquiry concerning her grandchildren and, although she wanted to live that she might longer serve those she loved, she often expressed her hope in the comforting and assuring words, "I am ready to go," and died in the triumph of the christian life.

Her life was so abundant in love and loyalty to her dear ones that it is hard to realize that her activites here are over. Her memory is cherished for the womanly sweetness of her nature and the unselfish devotion to her children. She will ever live in the hearts of those who loved her.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Mount Ayr, conducted by Rev. Jay KIRKENDAHL. Interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery.

CARD OF THANKS.

We wish to express our sincere thanks to our friends for their kindness and sympathy during the illness, and death of our loved one; also for the beautiful floral offerings.

THE CHILDREN.
