OBITUARY - ARTHUR LEROY TAYLOR

November 21, 1930 - December 8, 2008

Arthur LeRoy TAYLOR, a resident of Boring [OR], died Monday, December 8, [2008] at age 78.

A funeral liturgy will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 15, at Gresham Memorial Chapel, 257 S.E. Roberts Ave., followed by a reception. A committal will be held at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 S.E. Mount Scott Blvd., Portland [OR].

Arthur was born November 21, 1930, in Hood River to Arnold and Marjorie (GUESS) TAYLOR. When Arthur was a baby, the family moved to Kellerton, Iowa, where he grew up and completed his education. At age 16, Arthur moved to Fairview to live with his aunt and uncle. Arthur trapped and fished commercially with his uncle and worked on various farms in the area. In 1951, he enlisted in the Army and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1953 as a private first class.

On June 13, 1954, he married Blanche DURSO, whom he met while stationed at Camp Edwards on Cape Cod, in Brockton, Mass. After their marriage, they lived in Brockton and Arthur owned a restaurant in Washington, D.C., for about a year.

In 1958, Arthur and Blanche moved to Fairview and Arthur went to work for Pacific Motor and Trucking as a driver. He retired in 1992. Arthur also worked in the mink business from 1966 to 1988 and in the Christmas tree business from 1988 to 2003.

Arthur loved to fish and hunt. He and Blanche loved to travel the United States in their fifth wheel, and they cruised with the family to Costa Rica and Alaska. He was a longtime member of the Gresham Elks Lodge 1805. His biggest joy was his garden, where he grew berries and vegetables that he shared with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife; son, Stephen TAYLOR of Richland, Wash.; daughter, Cheryl LITTLEJOHN of Boring; brothers, Arnold Lee TAYLOR of Portland and James D. TAYLOR of Deer Island; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Gresham Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
