DEATH of T. A. STEVENSON.

Announcement of the death of Thomas A. STEVENSON, who passed away Saturday, April 28, at the Iowa Lutheran hospital in Des Moines, was received with profound sorrow by friends in Mount Ayr. Mr. STEVENSON was seventy-two years of age. He was born in Franklin county, Ohio, March 27, 1851, and when a young man came with his parents to Ringgold county, settling in Jefferson township in what was then known as the Eugene community. He was reared to agricultural pursuits and obtained a good common school education. He taught the first term of school at Eugene, in a log school house, in the winter of 1869-'70. Mr. STEVENSON was one of the most highly respected citizens of Ringgold county; a man respected for his sterling qualities as a citizen, and known as a christian gentleman. He was a stanch (sic) member of the United Presbyterian church and was ever faithful in the discharge of his duties. He served for three years as a member of the board of supervisors in the eighties and his council in matters pertaining to the welfare of the county was eagerly sought by those in positions of responsibility. Active in business and keenly interested in all matters pertaining to the upbuilding of the community in which he lives, his death seems an irreparable loss.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon from the United Presbyterian church in Shannon City and was largely attended. Interment was in the Shannon City [Oakland] cemetery.
