OBITUARY - HILLARY W. SNELLGROVE.
Hillary Washington SNELLGROVE was born in Wayne county, Tennessee, May 5, 1844, and died August 9, 1926, at the age of 82 years, three months and four days.
He was the third child of Samuel and Susan SNELLGROVE. When a child they moved to Hardin county, Tennessee, and while living there the Civil war broke out. He volunteered after the first call and served during most of the war, being a prisoner of war for some time and while he was yet a prisoner peace was made.
He was married to Celia SPELLERS and to this union two children were born, Mabala, who died when eighteen years old, and Sam, who has always lived at home with him. Besides Sam he leaves a sister, Mrs. E. MICHAEL, a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends to mourn his passing.
Uncle Hillary, as he was called by everyone, was an excellent neighbor and friend and was especially fond of children. Every child who knew him loved him.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. INGRAM at Oakland at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 11, and was laid to rest in the Oakland [a.k.a. Saltzman] cemetery, where his mother and two sisters were buried.
