OBITUARY - MRS. SARAH E. SMITH.

Sarah E. DETER, daughter of Aaron and Mary Ann DETER, was born June 18, 1849, in Piatt county, Illinois, and departed this life April 1, 1928, at the home of her son, C. C. SMITH, southeast of Benton, at the age of 78 years, nine months and 12 days.

In January, 1867, she was united in marriage to B. W. SMITH, who preceded her in death April 25th 1917. To this union were born eight children, four of which preceded her in death. The four living are Mrs. Albert BOYER and E. B. SMITH, both of Monticello, Ill.; C. C. SMITH, of Benton, Iowa; and Mrs. Pearl GERMAN, of Cummings, Iowa. Besides those of the immediate family left to mourn the loss of this grand and noble mother are sixteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, one brother and one sister.

When a young girl she united with the Brothern (sic) church and later in life joined the Church of Christ of which she has always been a faithful christian and a help to anyone in need and helpful in every christian way that was open to her.

The funeral was held at the home of her son, C. C. SMITH, conducted by Rev. T. S. RHOADES. Burial was made beside her husband at Clearfield.

For the many acts of kindness and sympathy expressed by friends and neighbors during the illness and on the occasion of the death and funeral of our mother we are profoundly grateful.

NOTE: Sarah's husband Benjamin W. SMITH was born November 21, 1838, and died April 25, 1917 with interment at Clearfield Cemetery.

Charles C. SMITH, son of Sarah E. (DETER) and Benjamin W. SMITH, was born August 21, 1881, and died on November 1, 1955, with interment at Clearfield Cemetery.
