PHYLLIS ANN (FLETCHALL) SMITH

Phyllis Ann SMITH, oldest daughter of Lee and Margaret (HARDEN) FLETCHALL, was born on August 25, 1935 in Mount Ayr, Iowa, and went home to Jesus on November 12, 2007 at her home in Mount Ayr.

On December 9th, 1951, Phyllis married her lifetime mate Franklin "Hank" J. SMITH. They were married for more than 55 years.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lee FLETCHALL and a brother-in-law, Kenneth SMITH.

She is survived by her husband, Hank; daughters, Terrie FENSTERMANN and husband Matt; Trudy TAYLOR and husband Scott; son Randy SMITH and wife Connie; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer MEYER, Chadd SMITH and wife April; Christi Shields and husband Josh; Jamie CORNELIUS and husband Chris; Josh TAYLOR and wife Hannah; Michael TAYLOR and wife Emily; Kasey RANDALL and husband Brett; Hannah TAYLOR, Rebekah TAYLOR, and Amy TAYLOR; 13 great-grandchildren Allie, Kelcie, Mackenzie, Kaylie SHIELDS; Mason, Chase, Alexa SMITH; Logan, Camryn, Alexis CORNELIUS; Jason, Mia, Reyna TAYLOR; mother Margaret FLETCHALL; sister Connie WORTHINGTON and husband Jim; sister-in-law Deb SMITH.

Most of Phyllis' life was spent in Ringgold County. Her biggest job in life was being the CEO and matriarch of the family she knew the schedules and events of all 3 of her children, 10 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. She went to games, programs, birthday parties, and many more events important to all of the children. She was always there for her family. One of her most famous things to do with all of her grandchildren was to hide money in each of their Christmas stockings, it has been known to be under labels in underwear, in the middle of lifesavers, pixie sticks, deodorant and even walnuts. Thanksgiving dinners for 40 were quite the production and were wild and crazy and full of laughing. Easter egg hunts for 23 grandchildren were even down to the piece no matter how many you picked up everything was split equally. The State Fair campgrounds were a tradition for all of us. The grandchildren remember their trips to The Nations and Grandma’s southern accent. Her love for abandoned animals gained the family 3 dogs and 6 cats and they got away with a lot more than all of the kids. Racing was a huge part of her life. Saturday nights at Knoxville and trips to Florida and the rest of the country resulted in many life long friendships. The adventures of Fred, Barney, Wilma and Betty (a.k.a. Gerald, Hank, Jeannie and Phyllis) are some of the families greatest and funniest stories. She was a member of the First Christian Church and a singer with the Women’s Federated Choral Club way back when! She was fun loving, full of life, beautiful and vibrant. She will be missed by her family and all of her friends.

Services were held Thursday, November, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. from First Christian Church of Mount Ayr, Iowa.
