OBITUARY - A. E. SMITH.
Alonzo Edson SMITH, son of William and Lavina SMITH, was born October 17, 1846, at Jerico, Vermont, and died February 19, 1925, at 7:30 a.m. at his home in Lotts Creek township, Ringgold county, Iowa.
In 1870 he moved with his parents to Toolsboro, Iowa, where he grew to manhood and later in life served four years as constable. In 1874 he moved to a farm in Ringgold county, Iowa. June 19, 1878, he was united in marriage to Anna E. HUFFMAN. To this union ten children were born - William C. of Sutton, N.D., Mrs. A. M. VanWINKLE of Carrell, Minn., Mrs. J. H. VanWINKLE of Courtnay, N.D., Mrs. Van NOBLE of Kellerton, Iowa, Mrs. C. S. BELLINGER of Wapello, Iowa, Mrs. Homer SHIELDS and Mrs. L. C. MAIN of Lamoni, Homer, Edson, and Everett of Mount Ayr.
The wife and mother passed away April 7, 1924. Since that time Mr. SMITH has been a constant sufferer from a complication of diseases. Besides the children he leaves to mourn his death a sister, Mrs. Tom YOWELL of Lamoni, Iowa, Mrs. M. E. UNDERHILL of Chicago, Ill., a half sister, Mrs. Julia RATLIFF of Campo, Colo., and three half brothers, Jim, Jud and Ed WILLARD of near Oakville, Iowa, and another half brother, Mike WILLARD of Seattle, Wash.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2:30 at the Ringgold church, conducted by Rev. G. W. CRAMER, and the interment was in the Ringgold cemetery.
