OBITUARY.

Geo. W. MORRISON, one of the oldest and most highly respected citizens of Diagonal, died early Sunday morning as the result of a paralytic stroke. He was in his usual good health Saturday, but was suddenly stricken down in the evening. He lingered during the night, when death relieved his sufferings at 7 o'clock Sunday morning.

Mr. MORRISON was a native of Huntington county, Pennsylvania, and was born February 18, 1845. He served three years and nine months in the defense of his county, enlisting in the civil war September 30, 1861, as a member of Company G, 30th Illinois infantry. He participated in the battles of Fort Donelson, Champion Hill, siege of Vicksburg, siege of Atlanta, Sherman's march to the sea and through the Carolinas, and was present at the grand review at Washington, D. C., at the close of the war. He was honorably discharged at Springfield, Ill., July 28, 1865. He was engaged for a time in agricultural pursuits, but later followed the blacksmith's trade until forced to retire by a severe stroke of paralysis. He was married October 14, 1869, to Miss Nancy M. WILLIAMS, of Muskingum county, Ohio, who still survives him. To this union were born four children of whom three are living; Mrs. Larry SOUTHARD, Miss Amy and Ira G. MORRISON. Mr. MORRISON came to Ringgold county, April 5, 1875, settling near Goshen and later removing to Diagonal. He was of a genial, kindly disposition and everyone who knew him was his friend. His influence and example were always for the best interest of the community, and he will be greatly missed. He was a member of the Presbyterian church.

The funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at 10 o'clock from the Presbyterian church by Rev. SMITH, of Clarinda, after which the remains were interred in the Diagonal cemetery. The bereaved wife and children have the sincere sympathy of the community.

NOTE: Nancy M. (WILLIAMS), the wife of George W. MORRISON, was born on March 6, 1847, and died October 25, 1922 with interment at Diagonal Cemetery, Diagonal, Ringgold County, Iowa.
