OBITUARY - ANNA MARGARET (SMITH) FORD

Anna Margaret (SMITH) FORD was born March 8, 1915 in Lincoln, NE at 1227 North 22nd Street to Anna Curran SMITH, (born in Ireland) and Michael Lawrence SMITH. Anna was the second of 5 children; Gerald Anna, Owen who only lived a few days, Mike, and Edmund. She lived in Lincoln for 10 years then the family moved to Elm Creek, Nebraska where she graduated from high school, and 1 year after graduation, the family moved to Afton, Iowa.

On April 11, 1939 she married Carl John FORD. To this union four children were born; Carl Lawrence "Larry", Thomas Edward "Eddie", John Allen who died at birth, and Carla Ann BLANCHARD. She was married just about 50 years and lived in the rural Tingley area her whole life until the death of her husband Carl. She enjoyed several clubs, VIC trips in later years, and community activities. She was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church in Afton and since moving to Mount Ayr is a member of St. Joseph Parish in Mount Ayr. She lived at Lambs Quarters apartments for several years and last year moved into Maple Ridge Assisted Living. At the end of August 2004, she moved into Mount Ayr Health Care Center for health reasons. She was a good mother, grandmother, and friend. She liked to read, crochet, watch basketball games, and spend time with her children, grandchildren, and friends. She was a witty person with a good sense of humor and enjoyed making others laugh. Anna died at the Health Care Center on June 2, 2008.

She is survived by 2 sons Carl Lawrence "Larry" & wife Charlene of Tingley, IA and Thomas Edward "Eddie" & wife Jan of Mount Ayr and her daughter Carla Ann BLANCHARD & husband David of Belmond, Iowa; 7 grandchildren Laura Lilienthal of Madrid, IA, Mary OELMAN of Nevada, IA, John FORD & wife Amy of Mount Ayr, Troy FORD & wife Allison of Hamilton, MO, Tracy FORD of Des Moines, Doug BLANCHARD & wife Tricia of Mason City, IA, and Emily FITZPATRICK & husband Kevin of Tingley; 12 great grandchildren Christopher LILIENTHAL, Mitchell LILIENTHAL, Amanda HAUER, Daniel HAURER, Chris FORD, Andy FORD, Korby FORD, Tanner FORD, Christian BLANCHARD, Zoey FRASCHT, Parker James FITZPATRICK, and Calleigh Daelyn FITZPATRICK. She has one great-great-granddaughter Riley Jo FORD; one brother Edmund SMITH & wife Iris of Creston, IA; sister-in-law Pat SMITH of Afton; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Anna & Michael SMITH; her husband Carl; brothers Owen, Gerald, and Mike; her son John Allen; and a grandson Jacob HAUER.

Memorials are to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
