OBITUARY - FERN LOUISE (HANKS) GREGG

Fern Louise GREGG, daughter of Floyd & Nellie (GERMAN) HANKS, was born at home, south of Mount Ayr, on April 30, 1928. Fern’s mother died soon after and Fern was raised by her grandmother Lula GERMAN. On August 25, 1945, Fern was united in marriage to Calvin Lee GREGG at Troy, Kansas. To this union was born 9 children. In addition to being a devoted mother and grandmother, Fern was a farmer’s wife and eventually a minister’s wife; working alongside Calvin as he ministered at the Assembly of God in Kellerton. Fern was secretary/treasurer at Pleasant Hill & Kellerton Assembly of God for several years. Fern also found some time to sell Mary Kay cosmetics and work at Faith SHINKLE’s book store. Fern & Calvin entered the Mount Ayr Health Care Center together and she passed away there on November 15, 2008.

Fern was preceded in death by her parents; her son Larry; two grandsons Robbie GREGG and J.R. GREGG; one granddaughter Marilee GREGG; one great granddaughter Jolynn KIMBALL; and a half-sister Marsha GREENMAN. Her loving family that survive her and cherish her memory include her husband Calvin of Mount Ayr; her children Marvin GREGG & wife Pat of Oakland, IA, Connie BITTNER & husband Jay of Griswold, IA, Bob GREGG of Ellston, Jerry GREGG & wife Barb of Redding, Ronnie GREGG & wife Joyce of Mount Ayr, Danny GREGG of Mount Ayr, Kathy KIRKPATRICK & husband Mike of Elk Horn, NE, and Roger GREGG & wife Carla of Tingley; 23 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren; a half-sister JoAnn GEORGE & husband Wayne of Kellerton; other relatives & friends.

Fern lived her life for Christ and without a doubt, Fern has experienced what the Apostle Paul wrote in 2Timothy 4:7; "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."

Memorials are to the Assembly of God Church, Mount Ayr.
