SERVICES TODAY FOR CHAS. DAVIS

Resident of Osceola for 18 Years Died Tuesday
Burial in Des Moines

Funeral services were held today [Thursday, December 2] at 1:00 p.m. at Webster funeral home for Charley Louis DAVIS, a resident of Clarke county for the past 18 years. Rev. Gene ELFIN was the officiating minister. Burial was in Rest Haven cemetery in Des Moines. Pallbearers were Earl MILLER, Charles CAMPBELL, Richard CAMPBELL, Ray CAMPBELL, Carl WALLACE and Charley DAVIS.

Charley DAVIS was born in Henderson County, Ill., on Sept. 18, 1875. He died in the Clarke county hospital on Nov. 30, 1954 at the age of 79. He was the son of Joseph Henry and Sarah (REYNOLDS) DAVIS. He was educated in the Union county public schools and on May 25, 1903, married Mary Esther LOUTHAN in Decatur county, Iowa. He was affiliated with the Osceola Assembly of God church.

Mr. and Mrs. DAVIS were the parents of twelve children, all of whom survive their father. They are: Fern MILLER of Los Angeles, Calif., Clifford DAVIS of Grand River, Iowa, Pearl HATTBERG of San Pablo, Calif., Atha CAMPBELL and Rose KIRKPATRICK of West Des Moines, Rex DAVIS of Newton, Mae McGARVIN of Seattle, Wash., Dale DAVIS of Grand River, Florence WALLACE of Bakersfield, Calif., Ray DAVIS of West Des Moines, Pauline DAUGHERTY of Newton, and Louise ANDERSON of Hayward, Calif.

Other relatives are 32 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Willis of Bellgrade, Mont. and Arthur of Stockton, Calif.; a sister, Alice GARSIDE of Creston, Iowa, and a cousin, Casper LAMB of Thayer.

During the years of his residence in Osceola, Charley DAVIS came to be widely known as a house mover and construction worker. His death followed a brief illness.

NOTE: Charles married 1st Florence A. DILLEY on September 7, 1898, Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa. Florence, the daughter of Sumner DILLEY (1852-1927) and Louisa Estella (HUGHES) DILLEY (1856-1948), was born September 1881, Iowa, and died March 28, 1900, Iowa at age 18. Charles and Florence were the parents of Vera "Fern" (DAVIS) MILLER, born August 13, 1899, and died July 9, 1987, Creston, Union County, Iowa. Fern and her husband resided for a time in Jefferson Township of Ringgold County, Iowa in the early 1920's.
