NELLIE ROUND DIES

County Resident Since Strip Opening

Mrs. Nellie [May] ROUND, 88, died Thursday in Shawn manor Nursing Home after an illness of several years. Her home address was 518 North Fourth.

The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard GIBBENS, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Odd Fellow Cemetery under direction of E. M. Trout and Sons Funeral Home.

The casket will not be opened at the service but friends may call at the funeral home until 12 noon Saturday.

Mrs. ROUND was born March 14, 1888, in Ringgold County, Iowa, and came with her parents to Oklahoma at the opening of the Cherokee Strip Land Run in 1893. Her father, F. A. BEARD, homesteded on a farm southwest of Tonkawa.

In 1900 the family moved to a farm three miles northwest of Ponca City. She was married to Frank [Ezra] ROUND [1877-1959] on Aug. 24, 1909.

Mrs. ROUND was an active member of the Methodist Church all her life until becoming ill. She and her family were members of the Excelsior Methodist Church prior to 1918 when they moved to Ponca City and transferred memberships to First United Methodist Church. Mrs. ROUND was president of the Ladies Bible Class, Golden Key, for many years.

Survivors include on son, Clarence ROUND [1906-1993], 2205 Cardinal; one daughter, Mrs. [Fay] Lorene CLARK [1912-1997], 514 North Fourth, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

A memorial fund has been etablished in Mrs. ROUND's name at First United Methodist Church and contributions may be made through the church office.
