OBITUARY - Mrs. A. C. MERRITT

Kate EGLY, daughter of Christopher and Catherine EGLY, was born December 15, 1879, and departed this life Tuesday, September 12, 1992, aged fifty-one years, eight months and twenty-seven days. She was united in marriage to Andrew C. MERRITT September 2, 1894. To this union was born two daughters, both dying in infancy. Besides her husband she leaves to mourn her death her aged mother, Mrs. Catherince EGLY, two sisters, Mrs. Anna TICE of Oral, S. D., and Miss Lizzie EGLY, of Kellerton, three brothers: John, of Gill, Colo., and Will and Simon, also of Kellerton, beside a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. MERRITT was born and grew to womanhood in this vicinity. After completing the work in the rural schools here she attended Highland Park College at Des Moines, after which she taught in the schools of the county. She was a woman of more than ordinary character, and was one who numbered her friends as her acquaintances, for one of excellent traits was her thought for the comfort of others. Having no children of her own, she was a mother to all who needed her, and this tender care was felt Miss Avis PYLE, who has lived in the home for over a year. She was converted in early life and united with the Methodist church, later moving her membership to the United Evengelical church at Salem, where she has ever been a faithful and active member. Her presence will be greatly missed here as well as in the social affairs of the community. She was also a member of the Kellerton chapter of the Eastern Star lodge. She had not been in good health for a number of years but her condition was not considered serious until a few days ago when she realized that possibly the end was near but she met it bravely for she had anchored her faith in the power divine. Funeral service was held at the Salem church Thursday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. C. E. BENNETT and interment made at Merritt cemetery. Services at the grave were conducted by the Eastern Star lodge.
