OBITUARY - C. S. McLAUGHLIN.

One by one the grim reaper of death gathers in the harvest, much as we would like to have them remain with us, they fall and disappear under the mighty blade of the Harvester which swings in an ever-widening circle as time goes on. It is with regret that we chronicle the passing of each and every one of them, but time is no respector of matter of humanity and finally the endless grind makes both totter and fall. So it is with our beloved elder, Claudius Stewart McLAUGHLIN, who was born in Brampton, Ont., Canada, September 8, 1858, and departed this life October 13, 1926, at his home in Diagonal, Iowa, after several months of most patient suffering, at the age of 68 years, one month and five days.

In 1869 he came with his parents to the United States and for a short time the family resided at Monmouth, Ill., after which they removed to Ringgold county, Iowa, where he grew to manhood and has almost continuously made this his home since that time.

Mr. McLAUGHLIN was united in marriage November 26, 1885, to Ida May JARVIS, also of Ringgold county, and to this union three children were born - two daughters and one son; one of the daughters, Inis (sic), died in infancy.

After Mr. McLAUGHLIN's marriage, he followed farming as an occupation for a short time, but some years ago he and his family retired from the farm and moved to Diagonal, where they continued to reside until his death.

He united with the Presbyterian church of Diagonal some thirty years ago, during which time he served as active elder of that church and remained steadfast to the faith. He was a great lover of his home and was a true husband and loving father, setting an ideal example before his family. He was also active in public life, carrying his share of the responsibilities, being mayor from April 7, 1924 to April 5, 1926, using his good judgment for the betterment of his community. He was also a member of the Modern Woodmen of America.

Mr. McLAUGHLIN leaves to mourn his death his wife, Ida May McLAUGHLIN; one daughter, Mary Floy McLAUGHLIN, of Diagonal, Iowa; one son, Cecil Lewis McLAUGHLIN of Des Moines, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. William LAIRD of Mount Ayr, Iowa; one grandson, Wesley Stewart McLAUGHLIN; also numerous other relatives and a large circle of very dear friends and we all join in the words of the apostle Paul, found in II Tim. 4:7-8: "He has fought a good fight, he has finished his course, he has kept the faith."

Funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church of Diagonal Friday afternoon, October 15, conducted by Rev. D. W. THOMPSON, assisted by Rev. WINSLOW and Rev. McNAUGHTON. Interment was made in the Knowlton [Centenary] cemetery.

NOTE: Ida May (JARVIS) McLAUGHLIN was born in 1866, and died in 1943. Ines, daughter of Claudius Stewart and Ida May (JARVIS) McLAUGHLIN, was born in and died in 1886. Ida and Ines were interred at Centenary Cemetery near Knowlton, Ringgold County, Iowa.

Wesley Stewart McLAUGHLIN, son Cecil Lewis (1901-1997) and Beulah D. (1900-2003) McLAUGHLIN & grandson of Claudius Stewart and Ida May (JARVIS) McLAUGHLIN, was born on September 13, 1925, and died April 16, 1927. Wesley, Cecil, and Beulah McLAUGHLIN were interred at Diagonal Cemetery, Ringgold County, Iowa.
