Ringgold Record, 1893

IN MEMORIAM.

On Monday morning, Nov. 20, about 8:30 the community was startled with the announcement that Mrs. M. R. McCLANAHAN had suddenly died. She had been sick, but had recovered, and was supposed to be almost well. She was sitting up and was feeling comfortable and all anxiety about her condition had been largely dismissed. But some form of heart trouble came and she suddenly passed away. Mrs. Sarah Isabella McCLANAHAN, wife of M. R. McCLANAHAN, of Mt. Ayr Iowa died November 20, 1893, aged 50 years, 1 month and 24 days. She was born in Warren county, Illinois in the vicinity of Monmouth, September 26, 1843, and was the daughter of Thomas Struthers. She spent her early life in the vicinity of Monmouth. In September 1861 she formally united with the United Presbyterian congregation, of which Rev. Alex YOUNG D.D. was pastor, and during all the intervening years has witnessed a good profession. Her love to her Savior, her attachment to the house of God and the people of God, and her devotion and faithfulness to her family was ever abiding, constant and unselfish. On September 19th, 1865, she was married to [Monroe Robentile] M. R. McCLANAHAN. She was the mother of three (sic, three daughters died in infancy) children. One of these died in early years. Two sons have lived to enjoy her care and mourn her loss, viz: Dr. W. A. McCLANAHAN of Tarkio, Mo., and N. R. McCLANAHAN who still remains in the home. The family removed to Ringgold county in April, 1872, and have made their home here ever since. Mrs. McCLANAHAN at once associated herself with the the (sic) United Presbyterian curch (sic) of Mt. Ayr and has been devoted to the interests of the church. She was indeed a mother in Israel, as well as in her own home. If the church was in sorrow, she was sorrowful, if in joy, she was joyful. Her thoughtfulness and care of her husband and children was marked and truly admirable. As a friend she was faithful and affectionate. As a neighbor she was thoughtful and kind. The husband mourns the loss of a faithful wife, the sons a loving mother and the church a valuable member. It may be truly said, "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord." The funeral took place from the United Presbyterian church, Wednesday, November 22, at 2 p.m., and was conducted by Rev. H. T. JACKSON.
