OBITUARY.

Died, Friday, January 2nd, 1891, at the home of her son, Thomas LIGGETT, Mrs. Jane LIGGETT, aged 74 years and six months. Mrs. LIGGETT was born near Glasgow, Scotland, 20 July 1817. At the early age of four years, she came with her parents to this country. They settled near Xenia, Greene county, Ohio, the Beulah land of the Scotch Irish Presbyterians. Her father died soon after coming to this country, leaving a wife and five children, three boys and two girls. The family had but little means and the children according to the custom of the times, were placed in other families for care. They all endured hardships but overcame them all. James and Thomas became ministers, and their praise has been in all the churches. The deceased was married to Henry LIGGETT in 1838. They settled in the green woods of Union County, Ohio and dug out a farm. They remained there twenty years. In 1858 they moved to Livingston County, Illinois where Mrs. LIGGETT lost her husband and son in 1861. In 1862 the family moved to Monmouth, Illinois where they lived twelve years. In 1880 Mrs. LIGGETT moved to Crawford county, Kansas. In October she came to Mt. Ayr and has been in a feeble state of health all the time. Mrs. LIGGETT was a remarkable woman. She had great force and strength of purpose. This aided her much in the struggles of live. As a widow, she managed well, as a mother, she trained her children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. And above all, as a Christion, she lived well. In sickness and death, she rejoiced in the blessed hope of immortality. Reverend David INCHES, of Redding, an old friend, conducted the funeral, preaching from John 14:2. "In my Father's house are many mansions." All who knew her joined in saying, "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord."

NOTE: Jane (BROWN) LIGGETT was interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa. Her son,Thomas LIGGETT, the husband of Catherine Isabel (ARTHURS), was born in Ohio on March 2, 1841. He was a Civil War veteran, serving with the 36th Illinois Infantry. Thomas died on January 16, 1907, and was interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa.
