Ringgold Record, 1888

OBITUARY.

Chas. Sumner LEWIS was born in New York, July 14th, 1856, moved with his parents to Wisconsin in 1864; married Miss Florence MILLER, December the 28th, 1882 and in 1885 moved to Ringgold county, Iowa, where he has since lived. He leaves the wife and a daughter to mourn the loss of father and husband. Bro. LEWIS was not well all the spring and summer. The last week in June he was worse than usual. July the 1st, mental derangement followed from which he never recovered. All was done that could be done by a skilled physician and a good nurse, but the fact still remained that he was sinking rapidly. On the night of July the 14th, his 34th birthday, he quietly breathed his life away.

He has been connected with the church since 15 years of age, always desirous of its welfare. At the time of his death, he superintended a Sunday school in the afternoon besides the regular attendance at the morning service where he held his membership. Funeral at Ringgold chapel, July 16 [with interment at Ringgold Cemetery, Ringgold County, Iowa]. May God comfort the bereaved ones. --M. A. EVANS.

NOTE: Charles Sumner was the son of Polly (PHILLIPS) and Asa B. LEWIS
