-------------------------------------

The body of William Meanor who died at the home of his son in Des Moines Thursday reached Grinnell Sunday and was taken at once to the home of W.J. Neely where funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock.

Accompanying the body to Grinnell were Mr. and Mrs. John Meanor of Des Moines and Mrs. Earl Neely and Mrs. Perry of Long Beach, Calif.

Funeral services were in charge of Hermon Lodge of which Mr. Meanor had long been a member, and were conducted by Rev. E.W. Cross. In attendance was a large circle of friends and Masons, all friends of the deceased man. Carl Johnson sang two songs, "Jesus, Lover of My Soul," and "Rock of Ages." Burial was in Hazelwood beside the body of his wife who died four years ago.

William M. Meanor was born at Imperial, Pa., Feb. 29, 1840, and died Dec. 15, 1921, aged 81 years, 9 mos. and 15 days. In 1866 he was married at Orion, Ill., to Margaret Miller. She died Dec. 5, 1917. In 1881 he moved to Hickory Grove township where he served as Justice of the Peace and presided at Newburg's famous liquor trial in the early days of prohibition, and gave his decision to the great satisfaction of the prohibitionists of the community.

In 1885 he moved to Grinnell to educate his family and here he and his wife for many years conducted the old "Hawkeye House," famous in its day for its homelike hospitality.

Mr. Meanor had many warm friends to regret his death and to hold in kindly remembrance his quiet, cheerful manner and worthy life.

Mr. Meanor had been sixty years a Mason, having joined an Illinois lodge in 1861, and had lived faithfully to its best and highest ideals.

Robert Pierce and wife of Kellogg came to Grinnell to attend the funeral.
