RITES HELD FOR MR. DOUGLAS

Emmet D. Douglas, 82, of Rte. 2, Malcom, died Monday, March 24, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dennis Smith of the Madison Church of Christ officiating. Organist was Jan Read.

Pallbearers were George Baustian, Charles Goodrich, Peter Goodrich, Sonny Schneekloth, Ernest Swanson and Richard Swanson. Honorary bearers were Edgar Buchenau, Burdette Farley, Lotus Goodrich and Duncan McDonald.

Burial was in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom.

The son of Joni O. and Grace Brewer Douglas, he was born on Jan. 3, 1904, at Willmathville, Mo. The family moved to Streator, Ill., where he attended school.

On Feb. 24, 1928, he was married to Gladys Kenyon in Grinnell. The couple farmed near Hartwick for three years moving to a farm near Malcom in 1931. Mr. Douglas was a member of the Poweshiek County Farm Bureau and attended the Madison Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys; three children, Richard of Skiatook, Okla., Charlotte Fleener of Malcom and Dean of Grinnell; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Maurice and Glen, both of Grinnell, and Hershel of Scottsdale, Ariz.
