Des Moines Birth Records--1850s

My 2nd g-grandmother (Rebecca Odell/Odetta Barnes) was supposedly born in Des Moines on April 10, 1854. I am hoping to find someone who could look for her birth record as I would like to know for certain who her parents were. Were birth records kept in Des Moines the 1850s? I believe her mother may have been Elizabeth (__?) born abt 1835 in indiana, moved to Illinois then Iowa. Her father (__?) Barnes was supposedly born in New York. Thanks for any assistance!
