Kelly - You need a month, day and year of birth. Without the complete date you are basically shot down.
Once you have that, since your husband is in the immediate family, you could try the State of Iowa. Check this url
http://www.idph.state.ia.us/admin/vital_records.asp This will give you the information that you need to order the birth certificate
