John "Jack" Miltner, 86, passed away Friday, September 16, 2011 at Mill Pond Retirement Community in Ankeny, IA.

Memorial Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Memorial Services of Iowa, 4208 N. Ankeny Blvd. Burial will follow at Ankeny Memorial Gardens, where full military honors will be conducted by American Legion, Post 42. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, September 19, 2011 at Memorial Services of Iowa.

Jack was born June 15, 1925 in Iowa City, IA, to Francis and Margaret Miltner. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. Jack married Bernice Crofta on January 31, 1948. They lived in Ankeny for more than 40 years before Bernice's death on January 31, 2008. He retired from Goodyear in 1983.

Jack is survived by his daughters, Nancy Monaghan of Bondurant, IA; Sara (Brian) Hoover of Ankeny, IA; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sisters Geraldine (Jack) Lynch of Iowa City, IA and Dolores (Rusty) Krall of Estes Park, Co.; and, numerous nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife Bernice; parents; brother, Max Miltner; and, son in-law Tom Monaghan.

A special thank you to the Assisted Living and Health Care staff at Mill Pond for taking such good care of Jack over the last three years.

Memorial contributions will be given to aid in the training of dogs for veterans care.
