Died from Broken Neck Under Auto
Last Week’s Vermillion Plain Talk gave the following account of the accidental death of Patrick Delaney, a grandson of Mrs. Eliza Tripp of this city:

Patrick Delaney, 20 years of age, of Woonsocket, was instantly killed at one o'clock last Friday afternoon at the J.K. Nelson farm where he was employed,when a Scripps-Booth car which he was helping to repair, fell upon him breaking his neck. The car has been lifted by a Fordson tractor and suspended three feet from the floor by means of a chain and rope over a rafter and Mr Delaney with Christian W. Nelson, 18 year old son of J.K. Nelson had been working underneath it. Christian had just stepped out to crank the car, when the hook on the chain broke and the car fell. Delaney was sitting up and received the force of the blow on his head, breaking his neck. The combined efforts of the family succeeded in lifting the heavy car and extracting the body which was rushed to the Vermillion hospital but the attending pysician decided that death had come instantly. Patrick had been employed on the Nelson farm for two months. He was much liked and respected by the family and his tragic death is a source of grief to them. His parents, Mr and Mrs Thos. Delaney, moved from Clay county to Woonsocket in the spring and were notified of his death there, leaving immediately for Vermillion.
Funeral services were held from the undertaker's parlors on Sunday at 10:00am. Rev L.A. McDonald officiating and the body was taken to Akron, Ia for burial.
Patrick Delaney was born near Hawarden, Iowa on Sept 2,1904 and Died August 21, 1925 at the age of 20 years, 11 months and 19 days. He was a life long resident of Clay County. He is survived by his parents, Mr and Mrs Thos. Delaney, seven brothers, Thomas, John, Martin, Joseph, Ernest, William and Harold and four sisters, Irene, Mae, Lillian and Alice all at the home in Woonsocket.
