DIED
Thora, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James T. Reed, passed from this life at their home in this city Saturday, December 20, 1919, at the hour of 10:50 o’clock p.m., being 15 years, 4 months and 5 days of age.
A month previous, she contacted cold, soon developing tonsillitis, but in a few days this condition seemed to be conquered and she was again able to be up and around with her loved ones; but soon the complication of acute neuritis and pneumonia developed, which proved beyond her power to battle.
She was a child especially dear to her parents, because of her obedient and uncomplaining disposition, being always willing to do that which was asked of her to do.
During her last illness she was such a patient sufferer, having to be asked if she was suffering from pain before she would give a sign of suffering from pain before she would give a sign of suffering, she being always hopeful and speaking words of comfort and cheer to her parents unto the last moments.
The evening previous to her passing away she was unusually bright and happy and seemingly feeling so well that those who were in attendance were greatly encouraged, making her relapse come as a greater shock to them. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ of Akron, united with the church at the age of thirteen years. She was loved by her comrades as few of her age are loved, and she has left behind with those who have best known her, the fragrance and influence of a Christian life that time itself cannot erase.
Thora Elizabeth Reed was born near Fonda, Pocahontas county, Iowa, August 12, 1904. She leaves to mourn her early demise besides her loving parents, a twin brother, Bazil, and one sister, Mrs. Mona Britton.
On Tuesday afternoon the Christian church was filled with friends of the bereaved family who had come to pay their last tribute of respect to one whom they admired and loved. Rev. Jerome E. Emanuel, her pastor, officiated, taking for his text, “Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth.” (Eccl. 12:1). The floral tributes were numerous and beautiful. Six young men of the Bible school of the Christian church acted as pallbearers. The members of her High school class attended the services in a body. Her body was laid to rest in Riverside cemetery.
The sister, Mrs. Mona Britton, who is in the south, was unable to be present, as the message did not reach her. Mrs. S. J. Beddow, of Delmont, S. D.,a friend of the family, was in attendance at the funeral.
A loved one from us is gone,
A voice we loved is still;
Although the burden is so great,
We feel it is God’s will.Akron Register Tribune pg. 1
