Oliver A. Morris
Oliver Ambrose Morris, 82, of Akron, died Thursday (May 16, 1991), at the Veterans Administrative hospital in Sioux Falls, S. D., after a brief illness.
Services were held Saturday at Schroeder funeral home in Akron. Rev. Burl Ratzsch officiated. Burial was in Riverside cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion post 134 and VFW post 915, both of Elk Point, and Hoschler American Legion post 186 of Akron.
Pallbearers were Willis Morse, Bernard Callahan, Ron Hoffman, Orvie Anderson, Ralph Morse and Wayne Groe.
Vocalist Lloyd Helseth sang “Amazing Grace” and “Precious Lord Take My Hand”, accompanied by Carol Harris pianist.
Mr. Morris was born June 5, 1908, in Mission Hill, S. D., the son of Bert and Adeline (Adams) Morris. He married Carrie McCambridge Jan. 5, 1955, in Mitchell, S. D. The couple lived in Elk Point from 1955 until 1989, when they moved to Akron. He worked for many years in a service station operated a gas transport, and was a carpenter.
He was a member of the VFW and American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters and sons-in-law, Catherine and Doug Maurstad and Charlene and Brian Hanson, all of Elk Point; a son, Oliver Morris and his wife, Portia of Elk Point; a brother, Donald Ingols of Marion, Ind., and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters.
