Martha F. Eberhard, 100, of Le Mars, died Monday, Sept. 5, 2005, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.
Martha F. Eberhard, a lifelong Plymouth County resident, was born June 23, 1905, near Merrill, the daughter of John and Mary (Ohlrichs) Herzberg. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Johnson Township. She attended Johnson Township School #4. Following her education Martha helped her family with farming.
On Feb. 9, 1932, Martha and Rudolph John Eberhard were united in marriage in Johnson Township, rural Merrill. The couple made their home near Merrill where they farmed and raised their family. They retired from farming and moved to Le Mars in 1973. Rudolph died Feb. 11, 1979.
Martha was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Merrill Family was a central part of Martha’s life. She enjoyed visiting and socializing with others. Her family and neighbors will remember what an excellent cook Martha was, especially her homemade bread. Rudolph and Martha along with others were instrumental in the formation of educational programs for children with special needs.
Survivors include a daughter, Arlene Maxwell and her husband, Melvin of Martinsville, Ind.; a son, Dale and his wife, Betty of Council Bluffs; grandchildren Kenvin Maxwell, Kim Maxwell and his wife Kimberly and their children Ben and Sam, Michael Maxwell all of Martinsville, Ind.; Mary Biggs and her husband Michael and their children Jordan, Jake and Kendall of Kansas City, Mo., Laura Eberhard of Chicago, Ill; Thomas Eberhard and his wife, Stacey and their children Keagan and Reece of Muscatine, Sally Landmark and her husband Greg and their children Johanna and Thomas of Denver, Colo., Susan martin and her husband, Mark and their children Jacey and Josh of Council Bluffs.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Rudolph; a son, Dean; and a brother, Chris Herzberg.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Johnson Township, rural Merrill. The Rev. Peter Boe will officiate. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at the Mauer Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. and there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral.
Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Merrill, or Life Skills Training Center, Le Mars.
