Note: Though her obituary doesn't mention it she married John in 1913. Her maiden name as well as her married last name was Johnson.

DEATH COMES TO WIFE OF FORMER UNION COUNTY MAN

Rites Held here For Mrs. Sophie M. Johnson Tuesday Afternoon

Mrs. Sophie Matilda Johnson, 83, widow of the late John I. A. Johnson, a former prominent farmer northwest of Akron in Union county, s. d., died at the Enloe hospital in Chico, Calif., October 15, 1945, after a brief illness.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Grenna, Sweden, May 8, 1862. At the age of twenty years she came to America, living in Providence, Rhode Island, and vicinity until she went to San Francisco, Calif., in 1892. Since her marriage to Mr. Johnson several years ago she had lived in Chico, Calif. Mrs. Johnson was a devoted member of the Bethel Full Gospel church, of San Francisco. Her husband, Mr. Johnson, preceded her in death in 1933.

She is survived by two stepsons, John O. Johnson, of Pittsburg, Kan.; and Arthur A. Johnson, of Beaver Valley, Sask., Canada; also a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The body was brought to Akron and funeral services held Tuesday afternoon in the Christian church. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.

Relatives coming from a distance to attend the last rites were: Mrs. Bessie-Johnson, Mrs. Margaret Flores and daughter, Marlene, of Chico, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. John M. Johnson and son, Hilder; Mrs. L. Harris, Arthur Thompson, of Sioux City; Mrs. Clyde Jones, of Grand Island, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Sigmund Nilson and family and Mr. and Mrs. Quinton Nilson, of Hawarden.
