Funeral servicces for Elmer Herman Mahler were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 16, 2002, at Bethel Lutheran Church, Sutherland, Iowa, with Pastor LeRoy Reimer officiating. Burial was in Waterman Cemetery. Arrangements were under the care of Warner Funeral Home, Sutherland, Iowa.

Elmer Herman Mahler, the son of George and Elise Winter Mahler, was born November 20, 1920, near George, Iowa, in Lyon County. He attended schools near his childhood home.

Elmer married Adriaa DeJoode on June 24, 1948, in Luverne, Minnesota. Following their marriage, Elmer farmed for most of his life and had lived in the Sutherland area since 1964. Welmer worked at Wilson Foods in Cherokee unitl his retirement in 1983. Elmer enjoyed his family and doing yard work.

Mr. Mahler passed away at the Mercy Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa on April 23, 2002, at the age of 81. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Adriana in 1965; brothers: Henry Mahler and Ernest Mahler, and sister, Matilda Winter and Frances (Mrs. John Korthals).

Left to cherish his memory are his children; one daughter, Donna Nilles and her husband, Larry, and one son, Ivan Mahler, all of Sutherland, Iowa; his grandchildren: Adriana, Christopher, Josh, Chad, and a great greanddaughter; other relatives and friends.
