Kathryn (Vosejpka) Klema (1835-1916)

Kathryn Vosepka [sic Vosejpka] was born in Bohemia in the year of 1835. She was united in marriage to Jacob Klema in 1858. In 1862 they came to America and settled in Iowa City, Johnson County, Iowa. In the year of 1870 they moved to O'Brien County and took up a homestead seven miles northwest of Sutherland.

Seven children were born to this union, four sons and three daughters: John, Thomas, Martin, and Frank; Mrs. Mary Doyle, who died in 1902, also Anna and Mary died in infancy. John Klema resides at Holstein, Iowa, Thomas at Cherokee, Iowa, Martin and Frank at Sutherland, Iowa.

Since the death of her husband in 1894, she has made her home with her youngest son, Frank.

For the last three years she has been an invalid, but her last sickness lasted only a few hours. She passed away Sunday morning, November 19, 1916.

The funeral was held at 10:00 o'clock Tuesday morning from the Sacred Heart Catholic church in Sutherland, of which she was a member. The Requiem High Mass was offered up by Rev. B.H. Loeffelholz, assisted by Rev. E.S. Maynard of Algona, Iowa, and Miss Bunker of Granville, who presided at the organ. Rev. Maynard delivered a beautiful sermon on a true Christian's life. After the service at the church, the body was laid to rest in the Doyle cemetery beside her husband.

She was a kind and loving mother, a true friend and neighbor.
