LEROY -- The funeral for Ruth Berhow will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the LeRoy Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Thomas Kolden officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Berhow, 86, of LeRoy, died Saturday (Aug. 26, 2006) at the Adams Health Care Center.

Ruth Puhrmann was born Feb. 15, 1920, in Baker Township, northwest of Paullina, Iowa. She attended country schools at Baker No. 7 through eighth grade.

On Dec. 15, 1940, she married Frank Ahrens at her parents' home in Paullina. They farmed in that area until January 1955, when they moved to rural Ostrander. They farmed there for 13 years before selling their farm and moving to LeRoy in November 1967. Her husband died Aug. 20, 1971.

On March 22, 1975, she married C. Emmet Berhow at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They resided in LeRoy until March 17, 1997, when she entered a care facility due to the onset of Alzheimer's disease. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and was known for her ability to yodel.

Survivors include a son, Keith (Dianne) Ahrens of LeRoy; a daughter, Karen Knudson of Ellendale, Minn.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ray (Alma) Puhrmann, Martin (Teddy) Puhrmann and Ralph (Neoma) Puhrmann, all of Paullina; and two sisters, Emily Meyer and June (Clifford) Miller, both of Paullina. She was preceded in death by both her husbands, three brothers, two sisters and a grandson.

Hindt Funeral Homes of LeRoy is in charge of arrangements.
