This community was greatly shocked last Thursday afternoon, when word was received that Mrs. Hanna Jacobs, living three miles northwest of Hartley, had taken her own life by strangulation.

No possible reason can be offered by her family or friends for the resh act, as her home life was of the most pleasant, and she was furnished with everything that heart could wish. Some delusions must have crossed her mind on the moment, and in that moment, which no man can explain, and will remain unexplained until revealed in the light of eternity.

Hanna Boysen was born in Keiturn, on the Island of Syet, Sleisburg, Germany on April 2, 1834, ad died at the home of her son, Boyd Jacobs, on January 9, 1913, at the age of 78 years, 9 months and 4 days. [clip]

She was married to Ingwer Jacobs on Marcy 13, 1867. Mr. Jacobs came to American in 1881, the mother and children following two years later. They settled in Clinton County, Iowa, and in 1901 came to O'Brien county and settled on the place which they now own. To this union, five children were born, one son preceding his mother to the Great Beyond in Germany, at the age of 14 years. Fred, Henry and Matilda, now Mrs. Otto Kruse, all have families of their own and live near the home place. Boyd, the younges, still remains at home, single, and took a specail and loving delight in the care and comfort of his aged parents.

The funeral services at the home were conducted by Rev. F. Albrecht of Sanborn, he choosing for his text the words of the Savior, "Judge not and ye shall not be judged." [clip] At Hartley, Rev. Hoffman had charge of the services. His words of consolation and cheer.

Mrs. Hanna Jacobs was laid to rest on Sunday afternoon in Hartley's beautiful cemetery, where her body awaits the second coming of her Lord.

The Journal joins with a host of friends in offering profound sympathy to the bereaved husband and children on this side and to an only sister in far off Germany, but rejoice in the assurance of that grand reunion wthen the mother met her Saviour and clasped to her bosom once more, the spirit form of her little boy who preceded her so many years ago in the Land of Pure Delight.
