Fred P. Jacobs

Following a long and painful illness diagnosed as paralysis of the ascending nerve, Fred Jacobs departed this life early last Friday morning, April 20. About a year and a half ago, the attack of this ravaging disease was first noticed and although the best the healing profession had to offer was tried in the hope of affecting a cure, it was all in vain. From the beginning his case was pronounced hopeless. With true Christian fortitude, the deceased bore up under his burden and patiently awaited the call of his Lord.

Frederick Peter Jacobs was born June 12, 1869, in Leltum, Germany. In the old fatherland he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. At the age of 14, his father, who had already emigrated to America, sent for his son and the deceased came to America to live with his father at Goose Lake, Iowa. There he grew to manhood and entered into the estate of holy matrimony.

On February 8, 1894, he was married to Agnes Jacobs, nee Botell. In the year 1903, the Jacobs family moved to O'Brien County, taking up their residence on a farm near Sanborn. After farming for 14 years, the deceased moved to Hartley in 1917.

Mr. Jacobs was known as a sincere, upright character, honest in his dealings with his fellow man, and held in high esteem by all who knew him. He was actively interested in the church and an ardent worker for the promotion of the kingdom of God. He will be greatly missed by his family, by his friends, and by his church.

He leaves to mourn his departure his widow, and aged father, three children: Walter Jacobs, Mrs. Hilda Ahrensdorf of Butterfield, Minnesota, and Mrs. Irene Rost; seven grandchildren, and a large circle of friends. May he rest in peace.

The funeral was held last Sunday afternoon in the Lutheran Church with Rev. Weber in charge. A great many floral offerings and a large gathering of people testified to the esteem in which the deceased was held. Interment took place in Pleasant View Cemetery.

Out of town relatives in attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ahrensdorf of Butterfield, Minnesota, and Louis Botell of Goose Lake, Iowa.
