Early Settler Called to Rest
John C. Cassidy O'Brien County Resident Since 1888 Passes Away in Primghar
Primghar lost one of its prominent early
residents when John C. Cassidy passed away at the family home here Sunday evening. February 27 At the time of his death
he was almost 84 years of age and had been afflicted with a lingering illness for sometime
The funeral was held Wednesday morning at 10:00 from St. Anthony's church with burial in
Calvary cemetery. Reverend Father Cullen
officiated at Requiem High Mass and at the cemetery.
Mr Cassidy was born May 1, 1860 at Bankston, Dubuque County Iowa. In 1884 he came to O'Brien
County and arrived at Paullina. He later walked across country to Primghar which had no railroad in those days. In 1888 when the
railroad was built he and his parents, brother and sister moved to his farm south of Primghar where he resided until October 1919, when he retired to Primghar.
On October 11, 1892, he was married to Margaret Kelly of Bankston, Iowa. She preceded him death seven years ago.
He is survived by a daughter, Loretta Halbach and a son, Vincent Cassidy and six grandchildren, Jeanette L. and Mary Jo Halbach and John V., Robert J. Margaret Ann and Barbara Jean Cassidy
In his passing we record with regret the passing of one of the old pioneers of this community. He was a successful farmer, a man of sound judgement and his part in developing this great new country was no small one. The influence of such stalwart citizens was always for good in community and church. Their places are not easily filled.
