Funeral services for Viola D. Hattermann were held Monday, October 2, 1995, at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina, Iowa, with Rev. Stephen Kamprath officiating. The casket bearers were Todd Hattermann, Joe Meyer, Noel Naber, Darin Hattermann, Kerry Pauling and Dean Hattermann. In charge of flowers were Wendell & Caroline Rensink and Herb & Gloria Stuegelmeier. Interment was at Prairie View Cemetery in Paullina, Iowa, under the direction of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home.

OBITUARY

Viola Dorathea Hattermann, the daughter of William and Clara Puhrmann Appeldorn, was born December 26, 1904, in Paullina, Iowa. She received her education in country schools in the Paullina area. On January 24, 1924, she was united in marriage to Bruene Hattermann Sr. in Paullina, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple farmed in the Paullina area until 1956, when they moved into Paullina.

Her husband preceded her in death on November 20, 1984, in Primghar. Viola continued to make her home in Paullina until entering the Marian Health Center in Sioux City and passing away on Friday, September 29, 1995, reaching the age of 90 years, 9 months and 3 days.

She was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown and later confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Calumet and was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. She enjoyed her times with her family, playing cards, needlework, crafts and cake decorating.

Viola leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Bruene and Marlene Hattermann Jr. of Weyauwega, Wisconsin, and Edward and Norma Hattermann of Paullina; two daughters, Mrs. Hazel Meyer of Primghar and Hilda and Eldred Pauling of Bentonville, Arkansas; also twelve grandchildren; twenty-one greatgrandchildren; and one great-greatgrandchild; two brothers, Gus Appeldorn and Ray Appeldorn, both of Paullina; along with a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son-in-law, Arthur Meyer; her parents; two brothers, William and Delbert; and one sister, Elsie Westphal.
