Services Held for Bruene F. Hattermann Sr.

Services for Bruene F. Hattermann, Sr., were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, November 24, 1984 at Zion Lutheran Church, Paullina, with the Rev. Donald Johnson officiating. The pallbearers were Dean Hattermann, Joe Meyer, Darin Hattermann, Tim Meyer, Todd Hattermann and Kerry Pauling. "How Great Thou Art" and "I' m But a Stranger Here" were sung by the congregation with Mrs. Verla Hibbing at the organ. Mr. and Mrs. Hillard Mueller and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Stuegelmeier were in charge of flowers. The final resting place is Prairie View Cemetery, Paullina. The arrangements were under the care of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home.

OBITUARY

Bruene F. Hattermann Sr., the son of Bruene and Emma Leverenz Hattermann, was born December 2, 1899, near Paullina, Iowa. He attended Lutheran schools in Paullina.

On January 24, 1924, he was united in marriage to Viola Appeldorn in Paullina. After their marriage, the couple farmed for many years in the Paullina area until 1956 when they retired and moved into Paullina. The couple remained in Paullina until Bruene entered the Baum-Harmon Hospital in Primghar and passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 1984, reaching the age of 84 years, 11 months and 18 days.

Bruene was baptized and later confirmed in 1913 at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina and was a life-long member of the church. He was a school director for O'Brien County for many years and served as Justice of the Peace for Paullina for five years and was an active member of the Paullina Senior Citizens Group.

Bruene is survived by his wife, Viola Hattermann of Paullina; his children, two sons, Bruene Hattermann, Jr., of Weyauwega, Wisconsin, and Edward Hattermann of Paullina; two daughters, Mrs. Art (Hazel) Meyer of Primghar and Mrs. Eldred (Hilda) Pauling of Bentonville, Arkansas; also 12 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren; and two half-brothers, Almond Briggie and Francis Briggie, both of Paullina; also many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Raymond and one half-brother, Ervin.
