William John Hibbing (1892-1940)

William John Hibbing was born in Caledonia township April 15, 1892; he died in a car accident in Cherokee December 23, 1940, at the age of 48 years, 8 months and 8 days.

Having Christian parents, he was baptized May 10, 1892, by the Pastor E. Zurrer of the Germantown congregation, later he was confirmed there by the Rev Oscar Horn, April 16, 1905.

His marriage to Miss Rosa Hoppe December 13. 1914, was also celebrated there by the Rev. F. W. Potratz. Mrs. Hibbing died Feb. 21, 1935 and was buried here In Prairie View Cemetery by the Rev. Carl Boye of Ocheyedan, whose members the Hibbings were at that time.

He contracted a second marriage with Mrs. Mae Billings Johnston, August 25, 1938.

Mr. Hibbing held membership in various Lutheran congregations at different times, Spencer, Ocheyedan, Lester, and in 1921 and 1926 here in Zion Lutheran church. At the time of his membership In Ocheyedan he once represented his congregation at a synodical convention. At the time of his recent accidental death, he had no official church membership anywhere. Zion Lutheran congregation therefore extended to him the hand of Christian fellowship and granted him a Christian burial from its church on December 26.

His untimely death Is mourned by his injured widow in the hospital, his two sons and one daughter, likewise also his six brothers and six sisters with their families and his aged mother in California. Interment was made in Prairie View cemetery.

The children, Avenell Hibbing of Urbana, Illinois, Edwin Hibbing of Los Angeles. Calif., and Harold Hibbing of Rochester, Minn., were present for the funeral services.
