Sister of Local Man Passes Away

Mrs. William Holck, 53, (formerly Dora Appeldorn) sister of R. C. Appeldorn of Primghar, passed away Saturday evening, November 9th, at the St. Joseph hospital in Sioux City.

Mrs. Holck had been in ill health for some time. She leaves besides her husband, William Holck, two boys and two girls, who reside in Paullina, with the exception of the oldest, Mrs. Doretta Unraw, who resides near Royal.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 13, at the Congregational church in Paullina.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 13, at the First Presbyterian church of Paullina for Mrs. William F. Hoick who passed away at St. Joseph's hospital in Sioux City the previous Saturday. Rev. F. E. Conaway was in charge of the service. Burial took place in Prairie View cemetery.

Obituary

Dora [Dorothea] Caroline Appeldorn was born on February 16, 1893, in Union township, O'Brien County to Henry and Dorothea Appeldorn, and passed away at St. Joseph's hospital, Sioux City, on November 9, 1946. At the time of her death, she was 53 years, eight months and seven days.

She was the tenth of a family of twelve children, and the second of them to be taken by death. Death came after five months of illness during which she was confined to her home and to the hospital.

She grew to womanhood in the Paullina community where she resided with her parents on the Appeldorn homestead in Union township and where she attended the public schools. In 1915 she was received into the membership of the Presbyterian church of Paullina where she continued as a member until the time of her death.

On January 11, 1916 she was united in marriage to William Fred Holck in Paullina. After their marriage they moved to a farm in Minnesota where they resided for sixteen years until they returned to Cherokee county in Iowa. For the past six years she has lived with her husband and family in Paullina.

Four children were born to her and her husband. They are Willis of Paullina, Doretta Unrau of Royal, Mary June of Sioux City and Eldred of Paullina.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by one brother, Herman, who died in 1944.

Besides her husband and children, she is survived by two grandchildren, Donna Fae and Eldon Hoick and by ten brothers and sisters: Mrs. Mary Rohwer, Mrs. Rudolph H. Rohwer, Mrs. Minnie Orthman and Will Appeldorn, all of Paullina; Mrs. Martha Schildts of Worthington. Minnesota. Henry and Gus Appeldorn of Pipestone, Minnesota; Mrs. Herman Kluender, George Appeldorn of Paullina and Rudolph Appeldorn of Primghar.

Among those attending the services from away were former neighbors at Marcus, Mr. and Mrs. Adam Seel and Mrs. Emil Anderson. From Pipestone, Minnesota were Emma Backland. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Severns and Ray and Mrs. Mae Severns.
