Roy N. Holtgrewe, 87, of Marcus died Monday, January 7, 1991 at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 1991 at Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus with the Rev. Daniel Georg officiating. Burial was in the Prairie View Cemetery in Paullina, Iowa, under the direction of the Earnest & Roethler Funeral Chapel. Mary Hohbach was the organist and the congregation sang "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "I Am But A Stranger Here". Serving as casket bearers were Dennis Johnson, Brian Johnson, Marvin Ebert, Conrad Ebert, Murl Grimberg, Michael Mouw, and Rodney Ebert.

Mr. Holtgrewe was born August 3, 1903 in Marcus, the son of Benjamin and Anna (Geringer) Holtgrewe. He attended Liberty School in O'Brien County. He married Ellen Harvey February 15, 1932 at Ethan, South Dakota. They farmed in the Remsen area until retiring in 1970 and moving to Boyden, Iowa. She died in September of 1972. He married Irene Ebert November 5, 1975 in Marcus. He had been a resident of Happy Siesta Nursing Home since September of 1990.

Mr. Holtgrewe was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Irene; two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Donna) Johnson of Rushmore, Minnesota, and Mrs. Dennis. (Sandra) Mouw of Sheldon, Iowa; four stepsons, Marvin Ebert of Marcus, Iowa, Vernon Ebert of Naperville, Minnesota, Bernell Ebert of Lowden, Iowa, and Orlan Ebert of Manitowich, Wisconsin; three stepdaughters, Marylis Donner of Andalusia, Illinois, Delores Means of San Bernardino, California, Bernita Means of Ridgecrest, California; nine sisters, Mrs. William (Esther) Ott of Remsen, Iowa, Elsie Holtgrewe of Remsen, Iowa, Mrs. Walter (Ida) Grimberg of Paullina, Iowa, Mrs. Harry (Nora) Tesch of Primghar, Iowa, Mrs. Harry (Bernice) Bottjen of Remsen, Iowa, Lillian Ott of Paullina, Iowa, Mrs. Carl (Gladys) Bottjen of Hawarden, Iowa, Mrs. John (Irma) Lower of Omaha, Nebraska, Shirley LeMoines of Mesa, Arizona; two brothers, Benjamin Holtgrewe, Jr., of Sioux City, Iowa, and Burdelle Holtgrewe of Le Mars, Iowa; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 32 step-grandchildren, and 29 step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, two sisters, Leona and Caroline, and one brother, Albert.
