Services held for Clarence Stamer

Funeral services for Clarence F. Stamer were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at Bethel Lutheran Church, Sutherland, Iowa with Pastor Leroy Riemer officiating.

Music included "Abide With Me," "Rock of Ages," "Just as I Am," and "Go My Children." Organist was Jan Ebel.

Casket Bearers were Kyle Johnson, Judd Huffman, Neil Jurgensen, Kent Jurgensen, John Woodall and Phil Woodall.

Military services were conducted by American Legion Post #152 of Sutherland.

Burial was in Waterman Cemetery, Sutherland, Iowa.

Arrangements were under the care of Warner Funeral Home, Sutherland.

Clarence F Stamer, the son of John and Lavinia (Pauling) Stamer, was born September 26, 1925, in Granville, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Germantown, Iowa, where he received his early education.

Clarence worked as a hired hand on farms around the area until he entered the military on March 31, 1944. He served with the U.S. Army during W.W. II and fought in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was awarded four Bronze Stars for the above campaigns, and also received the Good Conduct Medal and received the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged on January 7, 1946 in Jefferson Barracks, Missouri.

On February 14, 1948, Clarence married Gladys Wede in Sutherland, Iowa. Following their marriage farmed in the Sutherland area, where he was a longtime member of Bethel Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #152, but his real love and passion was farming. Even after his retirement, Clarence enjoyed driving around the countryside looking at the land.

Clarence passed away at the Spencer Hospital, on Saturday, March 23, 2002 at the age of 76. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Vern and John.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Gladys; two daughters and their husbands: Donna and Dennis Johnson of Coon Rapids, Minnesota and Carol and Randy Kennedy of Spencer, Iowa; five grandchildren: Callie White and her husband Jason, Kyle and Kanna Johnson, Jodi Havlicek and her husband Matt and Holli Kennedy; two great grandchildren: Sydney White and Hannah Havlicek; other relatives and many friends.
