ALBERT ENGFER IS LAID TO REST

Funeral Services Held Sunday; Deceased Was 71 Years Old

Albert Engfer was born on September 30, 1856 in Hutten, province of Pomerania, Germany, and passed away at his home here in Paullina on last Wednesday, June 9, 1927 at the age of 71 years. In 1880 he was united in marriage with Johanna Peglow, the couple came to America in the year 1882 and lived for three years at Kankakee, ill.

In 1885 Mr. and Mrs. Engfer came to Iowa. They purchased a farm near Calumet, Iowa, in the year of 1892 and lived at this place until 1918. They then moved to Paullina [404 S. Maple], Iowa and since have made their home here. When living near Calumet, Mr. Engfer united with the Lutheran church at Mill Creek, and since he has lived in Paullina, he has been a faithful member of the Zion Lutheran church.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, two sons, Fred of Calumet and Otto of Cherokee, four daughters Mrs. Frank Zahn, of Calumet, Mrs. Casper Durmick of Paullina, Mrs. Harry Bloodgood of Paullina, and Miss Anna Engfer of Cedar Falls, Iowa and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday at the Zion Lutheran church in Paullina and interment was at Prairie View cemetery. Rev. Hartmeister of the local church preached the German sermon and Rev. L. Walper of Sanborn preached the English sermon. Rev. Walper was a former pastor of the deceased at Mill Creek. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community and the many friends of the family extend their sympathy in this, their time of need.

Mr. Engfer was well known and. highly respected in the community and his death leaves a void that can never be filled.

The relatives and friends from out of town here to attend the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Fred Peglow, Mr. and Mrs. M. M: Bushlow, Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Nitz, Mr. Langkand and Miss Anna, Mr. and Mrs. Segelke and daughter Mable, Mrs. Hurd and daughter Emma and Lena, Miss Minnie Broasch, Mrs. John Steemke, Sr., all of Cherokee; Mr. and Mrs. R. Holtz and son George, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dopp of Harris; Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Gaudian and Herman Gaudian, of Calumet; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Drefke and family of Meriden; Mr. and Mrs. August Mews and family, of Granville, and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Specht and family of Cleghorn.
