Ella McAndrew is Dead

Another life has been cut short by the hand of death during the past week. Miss Ella McAndrew, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.K. McAndrew, passed away at the home at 4:30 Monday afternoon.

She was taken ill while attending the Normal Institute at Primghar, but got better and started to school at the beginning of the fall term. After only two days work, she became ill again and was obliged to quit school. Her condition became alarming and upon examination it was found necessary to perform an operation for the removal of a tumorous growth. Competent medical and surgical skill was employed. The operation was performed Friday, and was considered successful. A relapse came Sunday, and although everything was done that willing hearts and hands could do, it was too late and their efforts were of no avail.

She showed unusual endurance and patience in her suffering, and although she wanted to get well as soon as possible in order to continue her work in school, when the time came she showed a willingness to submit to the inevitable.

She was born in Hartley December 21, 1839, and spent nearly all her life in this community and was a highly respected young lady. She was in the senior class of the school and would have graduated at the end of the present school year. Her untimely death is a hard blow to the parents.

The funeral services were held in the M.E. church at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in the presence of a large congregation of sympathizing friends. The floral display was beautiful and spoke the feelings of heart to heart. The services were in charge of Rev. J.D.O. Powers, pastor of the First Unitarian church of Sioux City, whose words were comforting to the bereaved parents and family. Interment was in the Hartley Cemetery.
