Mrs. Lydia Green

Lydia Wilhelmine (nee Sittler) Green was born February 6, 1902 in Harrison Township, Osceola County, near May City, Iowa, the sixth of seven children born to Johan Carl and Maria Margaretha (Kruckenberg) Sittler.

In 1886 her parents came from Lowden, in southeastern Iowa, and settled on a farm in northwest, Iowa. She lived with her parents on the farm until January, 1914 when they retired and moved into Hartley.

Her father was a charter member of the Lutheran church boards, both at May City and at Hartley, and did much to establish both churches.

On March 18, 1902, she was baptized by Rev. Wisshhof in the home of her parents in Harrison township, Osceola county. She was confirmed on March 19, 1918 in Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Hartley, Iowa, by Rev. E.A. Hoffman.

On October 29, 1933, she was united in marriage to Alvin Earl Green by Rev. O.C. Geisler at the First English Lutheran Parsonage in Spencer, Iowa.

After a lengthy illness, having been stricken with cancer, she passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 1967, at the Longhouse nursing home in Spencer at the age of 65 years, 3 months and 11 days.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Maria, in 1889, her mother on June 9, 1928, father on August 3, 1934, two brothers, Victor, June 6, 1964, and Walter last August 12, 1966.

Survivors include her husband, Alvin Earl of Spencer, Iowa, two sisters, Bertha (Mrs. Henry Stomberg) of Hartley, Caroline (Mrs. Arthur Pearson) of Clarkston, Washington, one brother, J.E. of Arnolds Park, Iowa, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 1967, at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer with burial in Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley, Iowa, with Rev.A.O. Bleeke officiating.
