Alva Froehlich, 44, well known resident and grain dealer, died Wednesday morning in Le Mars after a long illness.

Froehlich had been manager of Farmers Co-op Company in Cleghorn and Cherokee since 1946, and in the elevator business since 1936.

Born and raised in the Cleghorn area, he took an active part in community affairs. He was a member of the Cleghorn City Council and Lions Club. Froehlich was also on the board of directors of the Big Four Co-op at Sheldon.

Although he had been hospitalized from time to time during the past three years, he continued to work up until the past several weeks.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters: Mrs. Robert (Darlene) Smith of Sioux City, Mrs. Wendell (Beverly) Tjossem of Gaza, Kathleen, 10 and Marcia, 6.

Members of the Farmers Co-op commented today, "He will be greatly missed and hard to replace. He was an excellent manager and a very well-liked member of the community."

Services will be at 2 pm Saturday, February 7 in the Cleghorn Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Allan Peterson is to officiate. Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery.
