Funeral services for Janice Kay Thiessen were held Friday, August 6, 1993, at the Hartley United Methodist Church with Rev. Melvin Ammon officiating. Warner-Baumgarten Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Janice Kay Thiessen, the daughter of Maynard and Cynthia Riemersma Baker, was born October 12, 1946 in Sibley, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in the Ocheyedan community and it was there that she received her early education, graduating from Ocheyedan High School in 1964.

Jan married James Thiessen on December 18, 1964 in Ocheyedan. During their early years of marriage, they lived in the communities of Milford and Spencer. For the past several years, Jan and Jim have made their home in Hartley, where she was a member of the United Methodist church. For more than twenty years, Jan worked as a bookkeeper, both at Graham Tire Company and at Dr. Jeffry Peterson's office.

Jan passed away at the Spencer Municipal Hospital on August 2, 1993, at the age of 46. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant daughter, Tara.

Jan is survived by her husband, James, of Hartley; one son living at home, Justin James; four brothers: Howard Baker of Ocheyedan, Arthur "Jiggs" Baker of Fort Dodge, Robert Baker of Sibley, and David Baker of Worthington, Minnesota; one sister, Virginia Skow of Jackson, Minnesota, other relatives and friends. Jan was a devoted wife, mother, homemaker and friend.
