Funeral services in memory of Richard Ernest Rieck were conducted at 10 am Tuesday, May 26, 1998, at Saint John's Lutheran church at May City. Past Paul Johnson officiated. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery of Hartley. Warner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Richard Ernest Rieck, the son of Harry and Mathilda Ewald Rieck, was born April 19, 1941, in Hartley, Iowa. He was baptized on May 25, 1941 and confirmed on April 3, 1955 at Saint John's Lutheran church in May City. He was a past treasurer at Saint John's Lutheran church in May City. His childhood years were spent on a farm near May City, Iowa, where he attended country schools, and later attended and graduated from Melvin High school in 1959. Following high school, he began farming.

Richard married Mary Kay Ficken on September 5, 1975 at the Methodist Church in Everly, Iowa. Following their marriage, they continued to farm 1 1/2 miles from May City.

Mr. Rieck passed away at his home near May City on Friday, May 22, 1998 at the age of 57. He was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth in 1972; his wife, Mary, in 1987 and his father, Harry in 1996.

He is survived by one daughter, Carrie Rieck, and her fiancé, Edwin Jones of Arvada Colorado; his mother, Mathilda Rieck at Mann Wing in in Hartley; one sister, Barbara Bodenhamer of Fountain Hills, Arizona; his fiancé, Barbara Fransen of May City; other relatives and many friends.
