I checked the published probate index which covers 1845-approx 1900 and the index to willbooks A, B, C. No Fields at all. I see from the 1856 census that he arrived in Iowa circa 1848. 1856 census has the wife's name as Mary. 1885 census has 'Mahala'. I don't see him in the 1895 index for Monroe county. If there were any children you might trying checking the deed index for a quit claim deed.
